"Eldest Hand" Definition

The first player to the dealer's left. Rather than referring to determining playing order based upon the actual age of each player, the term refers to the length of time that the hand has been in existence. The first hand that is dealt a card being the first hand that was created, and is thus the eldest. In games in which the best or worst hand acts first, when there are two or more players with hands of equivalent value, the eldest hand goes first.
